Why carbon removal

Brand Strategy, Business Strategy, and Sustainability Strategy 

As a strategic brand agency, Kontrapunkt encourages their clients to consider purpose and look ahead to what the next ten, twenty, or thirty years may have in store. This forward-thinking approach–coupled with a belief that good design and communication can influence positive change across individuals, organisations, industries, and societies–reorganises the hierarchy between brand, business, and sustainability strategy. This approach highlights the need for sustainability to not only be present but at the forefront of considerations, ensuring that purpose-driven branding aligns with long-term, sustainable business success. Aligning with these sustainability ideals, beyond just advising it, became a top priority. 

With responsible business practices top of mind, Kontrapunkt began to look for external expertise or frameworks on how to do so. They found the right fit with B Corp, whose focus on environment, people, and governance led them to address their emissions impact. Continuously developing these elements now holds an important place in their own strategy.

Carbon removal strategy

Calculate, reduce, remove, repeat 

Kontrapunkt found Klimate in search of a knowledgeable and trustworthy partner. Calling the Klimate team carbon removal nerds (in the best way), the Klimate expert opinion and educational component of the relationship was essential to Kontrapunkt. While having their own idea of a climate strategy, they relied on Klimate to bring proprietary knowledge to the table. 

With expert guidance, Kontrapunkt developed their strategy, recognizing that selecting a portfolio and determining an appropriate price per tonne are foundational to an effective approach. The right price per tonne is determined by a number of factors, internal and external, including what is right for the business now and going forward. 

Key results: 

Kontrapunkt has incorporated these factors into their investment strategy over the last two years, considering advice from the Danish Council on Climate Change, B Corp, and more. Plus, they want to make decisions that are suitable, proportional and financially stable in the long-run while maximising investment in higher permanence and nascent methods in need of scaling.   


In 2023/2024 financial year, Kontrapunkt invested in a portfolio that includes: 

Kontrapunkt's most recent portfolio invests in a mix of high quality projects across a range of methods including forestation, biochar, and microbial carbon mineralisation.

They have invested in 492 tonnes CO2e so far, through a well-balanced portfolio supporting both nascent durable solutions and land-based projects with strong co-benefits.
